A Few Words from Rev. Joseph

July’s Theme: Ministry “The miracle is this: The more we share the more we have.” -Leonard Nimoy- Summertime is hot, humid, and creative. I’ve learned over the years that there can be an uptick of short tempers and altercations during the Summer when people are not sure where to put their energy. Kids are out of school, parents can feel overwhelmed…but there’s always ice cream 🙂 Talking about ministry is always a dubious prospect. It’s dubious because it’s like having to describe how to love or how to enjoy music. Better to just love and enjoy music. But there can be some benefits to talking about it, and exploring it. One benefit is hopefully opening the concept up, and breaking it out of the bounds of fuddy duddy connotations and old ways of seeing what ministry is. Simply put, ministry is about sharing what we love with others. Children are great at this naturally. It’s natural to want to bring someone into our pleasure and joy about this life, and journey until we StumbleUpon that. I agree with Nimoy: “The miracle is this: The more we share the more we have.” One of the benefits of joining a church like ours is we stumble into the understanding of abundance and generosity. When we share what we love with others, we feel more love ourselves. As the English say: it’s simple math. I’ll be away in the Finger Lakes for a bit, and then on study leave preparing for the next months ahead, and I’m looking forward to being back on July 15th. We have a great line up for Sunday Services, led by the fantastic Sarah Lown and wonderful Michael Conder. Let’s enjoy ministry together…and stay cool. In Faith, Rev. Joseph
