Scientists have predicted the end times for our earth, if we as people continue to consume resources at the same rate. Our American economy and political system runs on the same principle that has run most human civilizations since the beginning of time – those who have the most military strength or economic power have inherited the earth as their own property.

The gospels claim something radical – the meek will inherit the earth. In the times we’re in, I wonder if this is religious foolery, or if perhaps there is a teaching here for those of us who aim to see the earth as more than a resource.Can we redefine the word strength, granting it moral integrity?
