Keeping Our Appointment

In Samuel Beckett’s play “Waiting for Godot,” an absurd play about two people waiting eternally, Vladimir (one of the characters) offers an answer to why they must wait: “Why are we here, that is the question? And we are blessed in this, that we happen to know the answer. We are waiting for Godot to come…We are not saints, but we have kept our appointment.” In this Advent season, what is the true purpose of waiting?
