Galileo Galilei dared to remain curious about the workings of the universe, and this curiosity led him to a predicament in 1610. Through his telescopic observations he deduced that the earth was not the center of the universe, but instead theorized that the earth revolved around the sun, in a theory called heliocentrism. This theory contradicted the Roman Catholic authorities who supported a biblical understanding of the earth as center of the universe. This contradiction led to an inquisition.
What is the price and reward of enlightened discovery? Come Sunday, to stoke curiosity in ourselves and the workings of the universe.
