I find it fascinating in the gospels when Jesus confronts his disciples with some of the requirements of discipleship – Did you visit me while I was sick? When I was in prison, did you come see me?
As I’ve reflected over the years on these directions, I’ve interpreted them as admonitions to go out there – to leave and go see the sick or go to prisons to visit the prisoner. Now I wonder if it goes both ways – Do we notice when we are visited by the sick? Do we notice the prisoners in our midst? Albert Camus will help us engage these questions.
Come Sunday, expecting a guest.
