BITS FROM THE BOARD
December 10, 2021
UUYO’s Board of Trustees continues to be busy — see below for your reading pleasure!
8th Principle: In an effort to increase awareness of racial equity and disparity the Board is exploring the possible use of 3rd Space Action Lab to work with UUYO on this important issue. Two meetings have been held with their representative to better understand their programs & pricing, and other options are being explored as well. The Board is mindful that this will be a long-term effort and wants to ensure all options are thoroughly reviewed.
Sanctuary Accessibility: Louisa Berger has led the effort to secure a bid for this project. Three options were presented for consideration. Several Board members met in the sanctuary again to get a better grasp on the options presented. A final decision on sanctuary accessibility will be made very soon.
Outreach Workshops: Various members attended three different workshops; coordination of information remains to be completed.
Pledge Drive: Members of the Pledge Committee determined not to do a year-long option, but quarterly updates and monthly announcements. The Drive began November 1 and will end December 31. Members are being encouraged to continue their pledges and, if possible, to increase them in order to meet UUYO expenses.
Community Handouts: Gene Pusateri, Lanore Jones, and John Shartle have been hard at work! 65 “in this house we believe . . . “ flyers were distributed by Gene at the Women’s March, and Lanore Jones and John Shartle distributed another 65 at Youngstown Flea. Information about UUYO is printed on the reverse side of the flyer.
Nominating Committee: The Board is reviewing the terms of current members. Other possible candidates for possible election to the Board were also discussed. A Nominating Committee will be formed shortly, to include three Board members.
Returning to worship in-person was discussed at length. Gene Pusateri explored this issue re other churches in our area; most are continuing their on-line presence, but are also holding in-person services. They are social distancing, and not serving food or drink, Some are even checking temperatures.
As is now obvious, it was the general consensus of the Board to begin in-person services with a virtual option still available. Safety and wellness will continue to be UUYO’s primary concern.
Ohio CAN is looking for a space from which to operate its needle exchange program. Although all members were generally in favor, more specific information will be requested.
As you can see – we’ve been busy! Please contact us with any questions or comments.
