The following members were present; Gene Pusateri, Lanore Jones, Lisbet White, Judy
Degenova, Louisa Berger, Tim Raridon, John Shartle and Rev. Joseph Boyd.
We all checked in and then reviewed the consent agenda. Gene moved to accept the reports
as submitted,; Lanore seconded. Motion passed.
Ongoing Business I
Andy Crabb joined us for a discussion on reopening the church. Since the variant is rampant
and the percentage of vaccinated people is still below 50%, it seems it is not safe yet to resume
services in the sanctuary. Andy reported that the technology is in place for outside services.
After much discussion, during which each board member gave comments about how they feel
about reopening, Louisa moved that we begin outdoor services on the patio on August 29. We
will continue zoom services throughout. Masks will be recommended. Gene seconded the
motion which passed unanimously. The board will reassess this decision at the next meeting.
Note: September 5 will be a zoom service only.
Ongoing Business II
New chalice Lanore reported that Tony Armeni will present the new chalice on August 29. A
question arose about whether we want a plaque to dedicate the chalice to Roger and Rachel
Jones. It was suggested that we talk to Gloria and David first. Lanore will reach out to them to
see how they would like to proceed.
Partner church Lanore reported that we are looking into an ESL mentorship program in
connection with YSU.
Sanctuary Accessibility Lisbet shared a drawing and estimate of how the sanctuary could be
modified for increased accessibility as a first step. It involved removing the front left pew, using
the two end caps to make a split pew in the back ( accessible by a wheelchair or rocker). The
additional room in the front of the sanctuary makes space for maneuverability of wheelchairs
and for easier participation in the service. The cost would be $7,700. It was suggested that we
get another bid. Louisa said she would do that. More comprehensive changes including a way
to access the chancel will be discussed in the future.
Housekeeping Thank UU’s to Linda Mohn for her help in organizing the picnic and the happy
hour; Melissa Smith for leading worship during Rev. Joseph’s vacation; and Andy Crabb for his
ongoing ,tireless work on technology.
Roles for next meeting: Gene will be the facilitator and Judy will be the secretary. Lisbet will
assign the other roles.
Our next meeting will be September 16 on the patio at 6pm.
