Visiting Us

Who are We?

We are a growing and vibrant congregation that is part of the Unitarian Universalist religious movement. This is a non-creedal religion, so we welcome people with many different beliefs and faith traditions. We embrace the questions, and encourage people to develop their own answers. We are heavily involved in making this community and this world a better place through activism and service. We are proudly open to people of all ages, creeds, abilities, races, and orientations.

Where We are Located

We are at 1105 Elm St. in Youngstown, bordering Wick Park, just north of YSU.

What to Expect on Sunday Morning

The Youngstown Unitarian Universalists welcome all curious and interested people to visit our historic church! Everyone is welcome. In fact, our congregation has taken part in the UUA Welcoming Congregation Program to become more inclusive towards bisexual, gay, lesbian, and/or transgender people.

Planning Your Visit

When are services held?

Services are held every Sunday at 11 am and typically last until 12 pm. Please enter through the white double doors in front facing Elm St.

Is parking available?

On-street free parking is available on Elm St., along Wick Park, and on Illinois Ave.  Our experience is that the streets of our neighborhood are safe, but you should take normal precautions with securing your car.

Is the church accessible for those with disabilities?

Yes. A wheelchair ramp is available to the left of the front entrance. We also have an elevator to take you to newly remodeled Channing Hall and to the restrooms.

Are children welcome?

Yes! We offer childcare for babies and children younger than kindergarten in our nursery from 9:30am to noon during the school year. You can also bring your children to the service if you like.

For older kids, there is The Children’s Chapel for kindergarteners through 5th grade. Drop-ins to R.E. classes are welcome.

Please note that no religious education or childcare is provided during the summer months.

Please see the Religious Education page for current schedules of classes and activities for children and youth.

What should I wear?

Dress is casual. Wear what is comfortable for you. Some people dress more formally, and that’s fine too.

What can I expect when I visit your service?

A typical service includes thoughtful readings or personal stories from our minister or church members, musical performances, singing together, and a sermon by our minister or guest speaker.

Summer services are more casual since attendance is lighter due to vacations. Summer worship services are held downstairs in Channing Hall. Enter through the front doors, then go down the stairs to left to Channing Hall. Or, take the elevator located to the right.

See Recent Sermons to read past services. The topic for the upcoming Sunday service is posted on this website.

Will someone try to “sell me” on your church? I don’t like to be pressured.

We want to make every visitor feel welcomed and comfortable. You will not be pressured or given a “sales pitch.” We hope you will check out our website and visit our church on Sundays or attend our other activities in order to meet some of our members.

If you are searching for a church that gives you the freedom to think for yourself, the Unitarian Universalists may be for you! Come and visit! No obligations or pressures of any kind.

On the table next to the last pew, please sign our visitors’ book and help yourself to a name tag. Our friendly greeters who sit at the back of the church will help answer your questions.

What’s going on before and after the service?

On most Sundays before service we hold the Adult Forum at 9:30am to hear interesting speakers on current topics followed by a discussion. At 11am we head upstairs for the Sunday service. After the service, we come back downstairs to Channing Hall for coffee and treats like cookies or fruit. Here you will have an opportunity to get to know some of our members.

Please note that in the summer there is no adult forum, and the Sunday service is held in Channing Hall.

Can I be involved in activities, if I’m not a member?

Membership is not a requirement for most of our activities: art and music, children’s and adult religious education, social action, and just plain socializing are open to all. We would love to have our visitors and interested people get involved! Explore this website for links to find activities you might want to check out.
